The first of three gigs that Deen had lined up for DEATHSQUAD to play was in one of Abergavenny's quality pubs the "Toad and Slug" on June 21st 1999. Due to an almost total lack of publicity, the pub had only sold one hundred tickets, mostly to local Nazi's who had been attracted by the bands name. The band were due on stage at 7:30 but only got on at 8:15 since they had had to have a band meeting in Deens car as to whether to play the gig or not. This was because although Deen was no stranger to the darker side of life he was a good man at heart and wanted nothing to do with fascists. He was eventually persuaded to play the gig when Angel spoke of how he had overcome his own dissonance at having to leave his honey, but had somehow found the strength to go through with it, even though "he felt like crying too." And so Deen took to the stage with his band in something of a huff, ready for violence.

After a long whine of feedback the killer blasted off the proceedings with his own single "Child". Scolerskimbal, playing rythm for this song was very excited at the bands first live appearance and towards the end of the song stage dived into the crowd with his quitar. Unfortunately the head of his Les Paul caught one of the moshing Nazi's in the face splitting his head open. The crowd went mad placing punches into scolerskimbals back. The band rushed to his aid, Angel swinging his bass around in an arc knocking out several of the ill tempered crowd. Deen confronted the injured Nazi who was furiously trying to get to Scolerskimbal, who was on the floor, with his mini blade. Deen grabbed him round the waist and lifted him above his head and threw him right across the room so that he cleared the whole crowd and slammed into a wall. A few more well placed punches from Deen scared the crowd into submission as The killer, now completely unsupported finished the last few bars of "Child". To calm the crowd down Deen suggested that "Jenny" be played next, its soothing sadness bringing humanity back to the proceedings. Despite their extreme political stance even the hearts of these hard men were melted by the songs tragedy and many were reduced to tears by the end of the song. The rest of the set was aggressive, loud and totally rocked but it was only as scolerskimbal plunged into his "Pakistan" that it became obvious that trouble was to rear its head again that night. Moshers leapt onto the stage for one last, intense piece of the action and in the midst of the flurry Angel tripped and accidently headbutted one of the enthusiastic participants. The man crumpled to the floor, unconscious and friends leapt to his aid. Pakistan was cut off in its climax as an enormous brawl erupted between DEATHSQUAD and the Nazis. Deen shouted to the other band members "I'll hold them off, you guys grab our instruments, get in my car and meet me round the front. I said now! GO GO GO!" In two minutes DEATHSQUAD burned away from a gig to remember. Deen laughed "That was great! We must do it again sometime. Lets go get ourselves some beers."
